home to pin-tailed sandgrouse, stone curlew, calandra lark and many more rare species

The Camargue wetlands and surrounding areas are well-known to Massifnature.  For three years now we have led birdwatching holidays there, but first visited 20 years ago.  So we know all of the very best sites for birdwatching ensuring that you get the best out of a visit.  Spoonbill, Greater Flamingo, Squacco Heron, Cattle Egret, Night Heron, White Stork, Black-winged Stilt, Avocet, Slender-billed Gull, Gull-billed Tern, Great Spotted Cuckoo, Sardinian Warbler, Subalpine Warbler, Zitting Cisticola, Italian Yellow Wagtail, Crested Lark...

We'll time our visit to correspond with the spring migration, when a huge variety of birds can be found: Osprey, various waders including Spotted Redshank in breeding plumage, Wood Sandpiper, Caspian Tern, Hoopoe, Fieldfare, Black-eared Wheatear, Pied Flycatcher, Redstart, etc.  And let's not forget the spectacular Giant Orchid that can be found in bloom throughout the area !

Not just the wetland area - we visit the stony plains of La Crau (with Pin-tailed Sandgrouse, Southern Grey Shrike, Lesser Kestrel, Calandra Lark, Tawny Pipit, Hoopoe and Stone Curlew to be seen), and the limestone hills of Les Alpilles (Blue Rock Thrush and Bonelli's Eagle can be found, and many orchids including Monkey, and various spider orchids), and the town of Arles with its splendid Roman amphitheatre and many other delights.

Our accommodation will be a 2-star hotel situated on the edge of a tiny village within the Camargue Regional Park, superbly located for all of our outings.  Breakfast and evening meal will be taken in the hotel restaurant, whilst lunches will be sandwiches.  A nature reserve behind the hotel is ideally placed for early-morning walks, with breeding Sardinian Warbler and much more.  White Storks that breed close by frequent the fields around the hotel in search of food.   Minibus transportation.  Expert guide.  All for just 650 pounds sterling.
